Good catch and good point -- I hadn't seen that. I assumed with similar hardware (screens of the same resolution and processors of the same speed), their video playback would be similar as well. But the lack of HD video on the Fire is an important distinction.

One other note: while the Nook Tablet can apparently handle HD video sources, neither will play in true HD, which requires 1,280 x 720 resolution ("720p"), and both devices are only 1,024 x 600. So the Nook must down-sample to that resolution.

Hey DD. Your old buddy "West Coast" Robbb here.

Great critical comparison. I'd like to add one more point, though, that might tip the scales a bit: apparently the Kindle Fire isn't yet equipped to play HD video (http://tinyurl.com/855kexc), while the Nook Tablet is (http://tinyurl.com/84lowjk). In fact, B&N trumped up that selling point as a headline on their homepage when the Tablet was announced.

Beyond that, Nook still has a hell of a way to go to catch up with Amazon's integration and ecosystem. I have to imagine that the Kindle experience-- across all devices-- is just much better.

Hope to see you soon, dude.
